VCU baseball swept its fourth weekend series at home with a 6-5 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead and held on for the victory to pick up their second Atlantic 10 weekend sweep and improve to 8-1 in league play.

LEADING OFF:
  • With the win, VCU tied Saint Joseph's for the lead in A-10 standings through three conference weekends, improving to 8-1
  • Teige Lethert drove in three of the Rams' runs on a pair of doubles
  • Sophomore Nick Flores also belted a pair of doubles, tying his career season high of 14 for the second-straight season
  • Reigning A-10 Player of the Week Nate Kirkpatrick also had a pair of hits in the game, notching an RBI
  • Everett Vaughan was the pitcher of record in his first start since Tommy John surgery, going 3.0 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits
  • Zach Peters has retired 10 straight hitters, making his second consecutive perfect outing to pick up his second save of the weekend
  • The Rams reached their 16th win in 26 fewer games than a season ago
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU opened the game with a three-run inning, using three two-out hits on top of Flores' double to build a 3-0 lead
  • St. Bonaventure scored its first two runs on an RBI single in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but VCU had answers in each frame with a home run off the bat of Quinn Maher and a second run-scoring double from Lethert, leading 6-2
  • The Bonnies came within one run on a three-run sixth inning using a wild pitch and a two-run double to cut the Rams' lead to 6-5
  • Nick Frers, Cooper Campbell and Peters each faced the minimum in the final three frames to hold down the win, completing VCU's weekend sweep
