Despite coming within two runs, VCU baseball was unable to completely erase the deficit at Dayton on Sunday, falling short of the weekend sweep. The Rams combined for eight runs over the final three innings, but dropped the game 14-12.

LEADING OFF:
- The Rams belted a season-high 20 hits, including four home runs
- Nate Kirkpatrick had his second four-hit game of the season and hit a home run for the third consecutive game
- Trent Adelman hit a grand slam, totaling five RBI in a game for the second time this weekend
- Nick Flores, Dante DeFranco and Michael Petite each tallied three hits and scored two runs apiece
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Dayton worked up a 12-2 lead over the first four innings, with VCU's two runs coming across on RBI singles from Petite and Kirkpatrick
- The Rams allowed just two more runs to score over the next four frames, chipping away at the Flyers' lead
- Six Rams scored on three home runs in the seventh and eighth innings as Kirkpatrick and Teige Lethert belted solo shots and Adelman blasted a grand slam, bringing the score to 14-10
- Flores led off the final frame with a solo shot and after a single up the middle by DeFranco, Lee cut the deficit to just two on a sacrifice fly, 14-12
- The Rams were unable to complete the comeback, falling on Sunday afternoon
