The Short Story: VCU Women's Tennis defeated George Mason 4-0 in their second Atlantic 10 conference match Friday afternoon.

Opening Serve
  • VCU and George Mason entered today's conference matchup with near identical records, as the Rams stood at 7-7 with key wins over Appalachian State and A-10 foe George Washington, while George Mason came in at 5-5 with victories against Coppin State and Delaware State.
  • Prior to today's match, the two programs had faced off six times, with the Rams taking all six matchups and conceding just one point in the process. Today's contest proved no different, as VCU once again controlled every court from the opening serve to the final point, sweeping the Patriots 4-0.
Doubles
  • VCU opened doubles play with strong performances across all three courts, cruising to earn the doubles point with wins on Courts 2 and 3.
  • On Court 3, Sara Alba and Viktoria Lackova were the first to finish, earning an impressive 6-1 victory to give the Rams an early edge. Sofia Jane Thorne and Andrea Magallanes followed with an equally impressive performance on Court 2, also earning a 6-1 win to clinch the doubles point for VCU.
  • On Court 1, Mariam Ibrahim and Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando were leading 5-2 when play was halted after the doubles point was secured.
Singles
  • Sara Alba set the tone early for VCU in singles, becoming the first Ram to finish with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brooklyn Siegel. After edging ahead 2-1 in the opening set, Alba quickly created separation, pushing the lead to 4-1 before closing out the set 6-1. She carried that momentum straight into the second, jumping out to a 2-0 lead and never looking back to give VCU an early advantage.
  • Andrea Magallanes followed shortly after as the second Ram to finish, delivering another strong performance in a 6-2, 6-2 win over George Mason's Noelle Talarek. Magallanes built control early in the first set, turning a 3-1 lead into a decisive 6-2 result with consistent, composed play. In the second set, Magallanes was level at 1-1 before pulling away to a 4-2 lead and eventually closing it out 6-2, continuing the Rams' momentum across the lineup.
  • Viktoria Lackova ultimately clinched the match for VCU with a steady 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mary Young. After establishing a 3-1 lead in the first set, Lackova maintained control to secure it 6-3. The second set proved more competitive, with key points at 3-2 and 4-3, but Lackova stayed steady under pressure, extending her lead to 5-3 before closing out the match. Her win sealed the result and capped off another dominant performance for the Rams.
  • On the remaining courts, VCU continued to hold the upper hand across the board. Sofia Jane Thorne was in a strong position on Court 1, battling through a competitive first set and eventually pulling ahead 6-4 while leading 3-1 in the second when play was halted. Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando was also in control on Court 2, dominating the opening set 6-1 and building a 3-2 lead in the second. Similarly, Mariam Ibrahim maintained her advantage on Court 3, taking the first set 6-3 and holding a 4-3 edge in the second. Each of the three Rams had momentum firmly on their side as play was halted.
