VCU FALLS TO VIRGINIA TECH ON THE ROAD

Score: Virginia Tech 11, VCU 8
Location: Blacksburg, Va. (English Field)
Records: VCU 11-9, Virginia Tech 10-9

VCU baseball continued its hot streak at the plate, scoring eight runs and belting 12 hits for the second-straight game, but the offensive surge was not enough to overcome three costly errors in the field. The Rams fell at Virginia Tech, 11-8, on Wednesday.

LEADING OFF:
  • Nick Flores, Michael Petite and Teige Lethert each had two hits and two RBI in the game
  • Petite smashed his team-leading sixth home run for 450 feet, the farthest by a Ram this season, and scored a pair of runs
  • Nate Kirkpatrick and Dante DeFranco also tallied two hits apiece
  • The Rams tied their previous contest for the third-most hits in a game this season, belting 12
  • Out of the bullpen, Coleman Bobb and Cade Dressler each made scoreless appearances and allowed one hit and no walks apiece
  • The Rams have allowed more than four earned runs in just one of their previous 10 games, spanning the entire month of March
  • VCU's winning streak snapped at six games
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game started slow, with the only run between either team through three frames coming on a solo shot by Virginia Tech's Hudson Lutterman in the second inning
  • The teams traded four-run frames in the fourth as Lethert and Flores each drove in a pair of runs on singles before Sam Grube connected for a grand slam to regain Tech's lead, 5-4
  • Petite evened the score at 5-5 in the fifth with his solo home run and Bobb hung a zero for the Rams
  • Despite VCU scratching across three more runs in the seventh inning, they were not able to erase the deficit as VT added six more runs late, falling 11-8
