VCU OUTLASTS ODU IN 12-10 WIN

The Short Story: VCU and ODU were tied 8-8 with 6:18 left in the third quarter before the Rams scored three unanswered goals to take the lead for good.

OPENING DRAW:
  • Sam Palmer scored three goals and had an assist
  • Rachel Koeneke had two goals and two assists
  • Molly O'Keefe recorded three goals on five shot attempts
  • Kenson Epperly had two goals and one assist
  • Kate Unzicker had one goal and two assists
  • VCU outshot ODU 28-17 overall and 17-10 in shots on goal. The Rams had just eight turnovers while the Monarchs committed 15. VCU led 14-11 in draw controls
  • ODU was led by Natalie Calandra-Ryan who scored five goals and had one assist
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU took an early 2-0 lead after an O'Keefe goal with 9:53 left in the first quarter
  • ODU scored three unanswered goals to take its first lead at 3-2 with 13:40 left in the second quarter
  • The Rams responded with three unanswered goals of their own to take a 5-3 advantage with 8:55 left before halftime. The teams then traded goals and VCU held a 6-5 lead at the break
  • The two teams were tied 8-8 when Koeneke scored with 2:59 left in the third quarter. That goal started a run of three unanswered goals that gave VCU an 11-8 lead heading into the final quarter
  • The Rams maintained their lead through the fourth quarter.
