RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Women's Tennis freshman
Viktoria Lackova was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday following her performances against William & Mary and East Carolina.
Lackova captured her second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor of the season after another strong weekend performance for the Rams.
Against William & Mary, Lackova started strong as she and her partner,
Sara Alba, earned a 6-3 victory on court three over Sia Chaudry and Parker Debnam. In singles play, Lackova competed on court four and pushed Mira Kernagis to three sets before falling 6-3, 4-6, 5-7. Against ECU on Sunday, Lackova and Alba once again delivered in doubles, earning a convincing 6-2 win on court three over Xenia Jeromin and Veronika Pavlenko. With the victory, Lackova and Alba improve to 5-2 in doubles play this spring. Lackova then capped the weekend with her second singles victory in four matches, defeating Pavlenko 6-4, 7-6(1) on court three.
Prior to joining VCU, Lackova reached a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 564 and posted strong professional results, including career-best rankings of No. 360 in singles and No. 927 in doubles. She also captured the Masters of the Bratislava Region singles championship. Lackova is the second consecutive VCU rookie, following
Sofia Jane Thorne, to earn multiple Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
VCU returns to action on Friday, hosting Howard with first serve set for 10 a.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
