- VCU trailed 2-0 in the first quarter before Kozak scored with 35 seconds left
- The teams traded goals and VCU trailed 3-2 with 9:45 left before halftime. The Hokies scored two unanswered goals to lead 5-2 at the half
- The Rams got within 6-3 with 8:54 left in the third quarter after Koeneke's lone goal of the afternoon
- VCU was unable to get any closer as the Hokies scored four unanswered goals and five of the game's final six goals to pull away for the win.
