RICHMOND, Va. – VCU junior Ana Afonso was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner, against Davidson. The honor was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Afonso scored the Rams' first goal of the contest as well as the game-winning goal in overtime. She scored on two of her three shot attempts to help VCU complete a comeback from down 3-1 with less than 17 minutes left to play in regulation. It marks the first A10 weekly award earned by Afonso this season.

VCU's win helped the Rams get off to a 4-0 start in conference play with two games remaining. VCU hosts Saint Joseph's in a battle of unbeaten A10 teams on Friday, Oct. 23 at Cary Street Field.
