RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Women's Tennis junior
Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando and freshman
Viktoria Lackova earned weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Wednesday, as Isabel Andrade was named Player of the Week and Lackova collected Rookie of the Week recognition following their performances against Northwestern and Temple.
Â
Against Northwestern, Isabel Andrade posted a 1-1 mark, highlighted by a 6-4 victory on court one in doubles, alongside partner
Mariam Ibrahim, over the nation's No. 48-ranked doubles duo. She followed that effort with a perfect 2-0 day against Temple on Sunday, earning a dominant 6-0, 6-1 singles win on court three and a commanding 6-1 doubles victory, once again with Ibrahim.
Andrade was named 2024-25 Atlantic 10 First Team, 2024-25 ITA Scholar-Athlete, and earned a spot on the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. She also earned 2023-24 Atlantic 10 Second Team honors and was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week during that same season. This marks the first Player of the Week award of her career.
Lackova, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, made her collegiate debut in the Rams' opening weekend of competition. She posted a 1-1 doubles record, earning her first collegiate win with a decisive 6-1 victory on court three against Temple with partner
Sara Alba. Later that afternoon, Lackova was competing on court two before the match went unfinished with the score tied at 6-3, 4-6, 2-2. If not for the quick work of other Rams that ended the match early, there was every chance Lackova would have earned her first singles win as well as her first doubles win.
Prior to joining VCU, Lackova reached a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 564 and posted strong professional results, including career-best rankings of No. 360 in singles and No. 927 in doubles. She also captured the Masters of the Bratislava Region singles championship.
VCU returns to action on Friday, hosting Longwood with first serve set for 3 p.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
