HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU responded to George Washington's game-opening basket with an 11-2 run, taking a 15-8 lead after the first quarter
- A Laia Crespín 3-pointer ignited a 9-0 VCU run to open the second quarter
- Griffin and Lucia Sotelo combined for seven points in the final 1:21 of the first half to give VCU a 23-point lead, entering the break up 38-15
- The Revolutionaries closed in on the deficit with a 15-2 run in the third quarter
- George Washington pulled within one point with three seconds remaining but Ty Williams went 2-for-2 at the free throw line and GW's desperation at the buzzer effort missed
