VCU FALLS SHORT AT DAVIDSON

The short story: VCU led Davidson 18-15 with 7:40 left in the second quarter but a 12-2 second quarter run put Davidson ahead for good despite the Rams' best efforts.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Daija Preston led all VCU scorers with 10 points
  • Ann Zachariah had nine points and a team-high five rebounds
  • Davidson shot 9-of-30 (30 percent) from 3-point range while VCU shot just 3-of-15 (20 percent)
  • The Wildcats held a 42-27 edge in rebounding and led 13-6 in second chance points
  • Kyra Bruyndoncx led three Wildcats in double figures with 18 points
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU and Davidson went back-and-forth in the first quarter with Zachariah's basket giving the Rams a 13-11 lead heading into the second
  • The Rams led 18-15 before the 12-2 Davidson run and trailed 31-24 at the half
  • Davidson led by as many as 15 points in the second half as VCU was unable to close the deficit
