HOW IT HAPPENED:

• VCU scored the first basket of the game but a 17-2 run by the Spiders gave them a 17-4 lead with 4:43 left in the first quarter
• Richmond led 31-9 after the first quarter
• VCU outscored the Spiders 14-13 in the second quarter but trailed 45-23 at the half
• The Rams were unable to close the deficit in the second half
