Box Score: Old Dominion 2, VCU 1
Location: Richmond, Va. / Sports Backers Stadium

THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer came back within a goal of the Monarchs with Vivian Vendt's second goal of the year, but was unable to overcome two first-half goals from Old Dominion. The Rams fell 2-1 at Sports Backers Stadium, halting their win streak at a pair.

PITCH SIDE
  • Vendt is the first repeat goal-scorer for the Rams this season, netting her second
  • Isabelle Franklin and Jensyn Lins each tallied their team-leading fourth assists of the season, the most since Anna Bagley's nine in 2023
  • Between the posts, Mia Pongratz made seven saves, just one shy of her career high
  • ODU outshot the Rams 19-7, but committed 15 fouls to VCU's eight
  • Riley Mullen recorded a brace for the Monarchs

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first chance for either team was in the first minute as VCU's Keira Connolly made a shot just wide to the right of the post at 00:58
  • Old Dominion tacked on their pair of goals early, as Mullen went back-to-back in the sixth and 19th minutes
  • The Rams put on pressure in the first half, trying to claw their way back and induced a pair of saves from goalkeeper Ellie Goodrich and a Monarchs defender in the 28th minute
  • With five minutes remaining in the first half, a ball-in from Lins was redirected by Franklin in the goal area and Vendt finished the job, cutting the lead to one
  • Pongratz was steadfast in goal to end the opening period, making saves on three shots in the final four minutes
  • Both teams were shut out in the second half and Pongratz led with a pair of saves to hold the Monarchs to two, while the Rams were limited to just one shot on goal
  • The Rams fell short of completing their second comeback of the week, dropping the match 2-1
