THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer fell to fifth-ranked Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday night. The Rams held the unbeaten Cavaliers off the scoreboard into the 42nd minute, but dropped the match, 3-0.

  • Freshman Jess Gotshall made her first career start
  • Jensyn Lins had the Rams' lone shot on goal
  • Lins played the first full 90 of her career, topping her previous high of 86 minutes
  • Goalkeeper Mia Pongratz recorded six saves in the contest
  • Lilly Heit made her collegiate debut in goal, logging seven minutes
  • Virginia outshot VCU 26-1, with nine of their shots on goal

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In just the fourth minute, Mia Pongratz made her first save
  • Jensyn Lins made the first shot on goal for VCU on a feed from Isabelle Franklin in the 33rd minute, but Ellie Sommers had her first save of the contest
  • The Cavaliers took the lead in the 42nd minute, finding the back of the net off the corner after Pongratz punched out an initial attempt
  • Rams had a good chance in the final 20 seconds of the first half
  • Pongratz started out the second half with a save in the 46th minute, but a 49th-minute shot from six yards out
  • Virginia managed one more goal in the 60th minute to solidify its 3-0 victory on Sunday night

VCU will return home on Thursday, September 18, for its final match before opening conference play on the road on the 21st.
