THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer dominated defensively, holding onto its 19th-minute lead en route to a conference-opening victory at St. Bonaventure, 1-0.

PITCH SIDE
  • The Rams didn't allow a Bonnies shot in the first period for their best single-half performance of the year
  • Jensyn Lins scored her second game-winning goal of the season
  • Y-Van Nguyen earned the assist, notching her first point of the year
  • Mia Pongratz made two saves for VCU's second shutout
  • Freshman Mina Stevens led the rams with a pair of shots on goal
  • St. Bonaventure sophomore goalkeeper Adelaide Paredes made six saves
  • VCU dominated possession, controlling the ball for 62 percent of the match

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stevens got the offensive charge started for the Rams, placing her first career shot on goal in the seventh minute, but Paredes made the save to open the match
  • Weaving through Bonnies defenders, Nguyen laced a pass to Lins at the 18-yard marker, who found the back of the net with the Rams' decisive goal
  • Stifling the SBU offense, the Rams didn't allow the host to take a shot until the 50th minute
  • VCU's defense held onto the one-goal advantage, as Stella Castro made a potentially-lead-saving block on the back line and Pongratz tallied her final save in the 90th minute
  • The Rams took down the Bonnies 1-0 on Sunday afternoon
