THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer dropped its non-conference finale to Miami, 2-0, at Sports Backers Stadium on Thursday night as the Hurricanes picked up their sixth win of the season.
 
PITCH SIDE
  • Ryn Feemster, two-sport athlete and member of the VCU lacrosse team, made her VCU women's soccer debut and logged 34 minutes
  • Freshman Jess Gotshall recorded her first career shot on goal
  • Pongratz made four saves in goal, bringing her season total to 45
  • VCU was outshot 15-4, with Miami holding the edge in shots on goal 6-1
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miami opened the scoring in the fourth minute as Ciara Alarcon was able to weave a shot by Pongratz in goal to the far post
  • In the 55th minute, the Canes extended their lead to a pair on a goal from Eabha O'Mahony
  • VCU's best scoring opportunity of the match came off the boot of Gotshall in the 81st minute, but Miami goalkeeper Lauren Rodriguez handled it to keep the clean sheet intact
  • The Rams fell to the Hurricanes, 2-0
 
UP NEXT
VCU will open its conference schedule on Sunday, Sept. 21, at St. Bonaventure before returning home on Thursday, Sept 28 to face Saint Louis for the first Atlantic 10 match at home.
