HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU's defense faced pressure early but kept Wake Forest scoreless through the first quarter. The Demon Deacons outshot VCU 8-1 as Clements made five saves.
- The teams went into halftime 0-0 after Wake Forest recorded four shots, all on goal, in the second quarter but were denied each time by Clements
- Wake Forest broke the deadlock with two goals in less than two minutes. In the 44th minute, Marthinus scored on a rebound after Clements made an initial save off a penalty corner
- The Demon Deacons scored in the 45th minute as a pass in was deflected into the air and Storey was able to redirect the ball out of the air and into the goal
