CLEMENTS SETS CAREER-HIGH, VCU FALLS TO WAKE FOREST 2-0

Final Score: Wake Forest 2, VCU 0
Location: Richmond, Va.
Records: VCU 2-2, Wake Forest 3-2

The Short Story: Emma Clements made a career-high 14 saves in goal but her defensive efforts weren't enough to overcome two third quarter goals in VCU's loss to Wake Forest on Friday afternoon.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Clements, who is the reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week, made her career-high 14 saves on her 16 shots faced. Her previous career-high was 12
  • Five different Rams recorded one shot each
  • Wake Forest outshot VCU 26-5 on the game and 16-4 in shots on goal. The Demon Deacons held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners
  • Lauren Storey and Logan Marthinus each scored one goal for Wake Forest

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU's defense faced pressure early but kept Wake Forest scoreless through the first quarter. The Demon Deacons outshot VCU 8-1 as Clements made five saves.
  • The teams went into halftime 0-0 after Wake Forest recorded four shots, all on goal, in the second quarter but were denied each time by Clements
  • Wake Forest broke the deadlock with two goals in less than two minutes. In the 44th minute, Marthinus scored on a rebound after Clements made an initial save off a penalty corner
  • The Demon Deacons scored in the 45th minute as a pass in was deflected into the air and Storey was able to redirect the ball out of the air and into the goal
