THE SHORT STORY
VCU men's soccer made a statement comeback at Old Dominion on Friday, battling its way to a pair of late goals from Hakim Musabbah and Mohammed Ibrahim to down the Monarchs 2-1.
 
PITCH SIDE
  • VCU outshot ODU 17-7, limiting the Monarchs to just two shots on goal in the contest
  • Both Musabbah and Ibrahim scored their first collegiate goals
  • Nikita Hayes made his collegiate debut, placing a team-leading two shots on goal and notching his first career point
  • Hayes and Andrey Salmeron each logged four shots
  • VCU had a multi-goal game for the second consecutive contest, all scored by different Rams
  • The Rams dominated in possession, controlling 60 percent of the match

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs opened the contest's scoring in the 24th minute, courtesy of Jake Lane
  • VCU attempted to overturn its one-goal deficit, but was unable to find an equalizer in the first period after a pair of Old Dominion saves
  • Lucas White launched a spectacular shot on goal, which was saved by Michael Statham in full extension, but Musabbah was in the mouth of the net for the follow through to tie the game, 1-1, in the 73rd minute
  • In the 87th minute, Hayes sent a centering pass inside the penalty box to Ibrahim, who netted his first collegiate goal for the game-winner
  • The Rams came out on top for the first time in 2025, 2-1
 
UP NEXT
The Rams return to Sports Backers Stadium for a pair of home matches on September 2 and 5 against Campbell and High Point, respectively.
