The short story:  The Rams played the No. 9 Cavaliers close early, trailing just 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Despite keeping it close early, Virginia's defense allowed just one goal over the next two quarters as they pulled away from VCU.

  • After three unanswered Virginia goals, the Rams got within 4-2 on a goal from Koeneke with 3:10 left in the first quarter
  • Virginia then scored 10 of the next 11 goals, with VCU scoring just once during a nearly 40-minute stretch of game play as the Cavaliers pulled away for the win
