Â
LEADING OFF:
- VCU combined for a season-high 19 runs, 18 RBI, 13 hits at the plate, while striking out just six times
- Nick Frers, Jack Hoeymans, Cooper Campbell and Elijah Coston combined to allow just three hits and one earned run from the Lancers, both the second-fewest this season
- Nate Kirkpatrick went 3-4 and scored three runs
- Jacob Lee had six RBI, eclipsing his own previous team-high five, and belted the Rams' first triple of the year as one of his two hits
- Nick Flores and Casey Kleinman each notched a pair of hits, while Trent Adelman and Flores had three RBI apiece
- Kleinman scored four runs in the game, the first Ram to achieve the feat since AJ Mathis against George Washington last season
- Adelman blasted his second career home run, and his second in three games
- VCU's 10 runs in the second were the most in an inning since the Rams scored 12 against Maryland on Feb. 28 of last season
- The Rams snapped a nine-game losing skid with their first midweek win of the season
- VCU split the season series with 1-1
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lee led off the game for VCU with a full-count walk and came around to score on a wild pitch, opening up the Rams' run barrage
- Adelman lifted his second home run of the year to left field as he brought Flores home for a 3-0 lead in the first frame
- VCU opened the floodgates in the second inning, putting up a 10-spot, which featured five hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch by a Rams lineup that batted around
- Kleinman opened the inning with a single and Kirkpatrick reached on a Lancers error before the pair scored on an Adrian Jimenez single, the duo also scored with Seth Werchan on Lee's bases-loaded triple to close out the frame
- Longwood scored its only runs of the game in the top of the fourth, aided in part by a fielding error by the Rams before VCU placed five more runs on the board in the home half of the inning
- Lee drove in Kleinman on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning for his sixth RBI and the Rams' 19th and final run of the contest
- Campbell and Coston each tossed a hitless frame in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, to close out the run-rule victory for VCU, 19-2
