RAMS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT A-10 CONTEST, BEAT DUQUESNE 17-9

The short story:  VCU jumped out to a 7-1 lead early in the second quarter after a goal from Sophia Bombardieri with 13:16 left before halftime. The Rams led wire-to-wire in its third straight Atlantic 10 win.

  • Mia George had five goals and one assist on just six shot attempts
  • Sam Palmer had four goals and one assist also on six shot attempts
  • Ashley Karn recorded four assists
  • Sophia Bombardieri had two goals and three assists

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rams led 2-1 before a Rachel Koeneke goal with 4:52 was the first of five unanswered as VCU led 7-1 with 13:16 left before halftime
  • Duquesne scored five of the next seven goals to get back within 9-6 with 14:38 left in the third quarter
  • The Rams thwarted the Dukes comeback attempt by answering with five of the next six goals, including two from Palmer, to rebuild its lead to 14-7 and pull away for good
