Â
LEADING OFF:
- The Rams defense turned four double plays, the most since March 2022 against East Carolina, and for just the third time in the last 10 seasons
- Owen Tappy went a career-high 5.2 innings, allowing just one earned run and fanning a pair
- Freshman Jacob Lee had his team-best fourth multi-hit game
- Nate Kirkpatrick extended his on-base streak to five games

- VCU and Boston College were tied with seven hits apiece
- This marked the Rams' second one-run game against an ACC opponent, also falling 4-3 at then No. 14 Clemson last weekend
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Boston College took advantage of early VCU mistakes, taking an early lead with a two-run single by first baseman Nick Wang that drove in runners on from a walk and HBP
- In the home half of the frame, the Rams cut the Eagles' lead in half as Nick Flores doubled in Werchan, who had reached on a leadoff walk
- The visitors added another run in the fourth inning, aided by a VCU error in the outfield
- VCU collected four hits in the bottom of the seventh as Lee doubled and Richey followed with a single before Kirkpatrick and Jimenez moved the line with back-to-back singles to even the score at 3-3
- A pair of Boston College hits put the go-ahead run in scoring position and the Eagles scratched across the winning run on a double play
- VCU turned its fourth double play of the day to end the top of the ninth inning, but left Lee in scoring position with the final out of the weekend
