THE SHORT STORY: VCU struggled to get runs across following a leadoff home run by freshman catcher
Jacob Lee, falling in its sixth straight game against Virginia Tech Tuesday in Blacksburg.
Â
LEADING OFF:
- Trent Adelman extended his hitting streak to six games, tying the team's high on the season
- Jacob Lee extended his reached-base streak into the double digits, getting on in the Rams' last 10 consecutive contests
- Lee also smacked his fifth home run and 22nd hit of his freshman campaign
- Nick Flores, freshman second baseman, had his fifth-multi hit game of the year and second in the last three games
- Seth Werchan made an incredible diving save in center field and tallied a hit and a stolen base
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Batting leadoff and trailing 1-2 in the count, Lee smashed a home run to left field to open the game for VCU
- Virginia Tech scored 13 runs over the next five innings while holding the Rams to just four more hits until Adelman drove in the Rams' second run with a single to right field in the top of the sixth inning
- Giving VCU a fighting chance to break out of its run-rule deficit, Michael Walsh tossed a scoreless frame in the bottom of the sixth, as Casey Kleinman made a diving stop to turn two and end the inning
- The Rams went down in order in the final inning, falling to VT, 13-2
