Â
THE SHORT STORY: Despite collecting seven hits and drawing six walks, VCU baseball fell to East Carolina to open the two-game midweek series in eight innings on Tuesday as defensive miscues and runners left on base troubled the Rams.
Â
LEADING OFF:
- Jacob Lee had his fourth consecutive two-hit game and his team-leading seventh
- Casey Kleinman also had back-to-back multi-hit games in each of his starts at shortstop
- Allowing just one baserunner, Zachary Peters had his second scoreless outing in as many appearances
- Sean Swenson hit his third home run of the season in the first inning
- The Rams led the game with six walks drawn to ECU's five
- Trent Adelman's two hits tied his career best from earlier this season against No. 14 Clemson
- VCU left 13 runners on base in the contest and stranded 11 Pirates
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams started out on the right foot as Max Moore allowed just one baserunner in a scoreless first frame
- Swenson smashed a 407-foot home run to center field in the home half of the inning to give the Rams the first of the game for the 10th time this season
- The Pirates scored a pair of runs each in the next two innings before Adelman singled to left field and rounded the bases aided by Lee's first hit of the evening
- VCU's pitching staff held East Carolina scoreless in two of the final five frames, but three multi-run innings gave the visitors the 10-run advantage they needed for the run-rule victory, 12-2
