RAMS DROP MIDWEEK SERIES TO EAST CAROLINA

Score: East Carolina 11, VCU 1
Location: Richmond, Va. (The Diamond)
Records: VCU 4-12, East Carolina 9-8

THE SHORT STORY: Falling victim to an early deficit and late offensive push by East Carolina, the Rams dropped their second game of the midweek series to the Pirates, 11-1.

LEADING OFF:
  • Will Henson belted a pair of hits to extend his on-base streak to five games with his fourth multi-hit contest of the season
  • Nick Frers threw first-pitch strikes against eight of his 10 batters faced
  • Freshman two-way Elijah Coston had his second consecutive scoreless outing, going an inning and notching a strikeout
  • Seth Werchan tallied his 99th career hit
  • Collin Hughes notched his second hit in the Black and Gold with a single in the ninth frame
  • Pirates pitcher Nick Moran went 5.0 scoreless innings in his start, allowing just one hit and one walk
  • East Carolina outhit the Rams 8-6 and committed one fewer error, 2-1

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pirates plated four in the first inning, taking advantage of free passes
  • Frers allowed one inherited runner to score as he entered in the top of the first, but followed with a pair of scoreless frames
  • Continuing to reel the game back in for VCU, Coston stranded a pair in the top of the fourth
  • ECU's Moran carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before surrendering a walk to Jacob Lee and the first Rams hit of the game to Will Henson
  • The visitors had another big inning in the sixth, scoring four for an 8-0 ballgame
  • VCU took advantage of a Pirates error to get a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the scoring ended there for the Rams
  • East Carolina managed three more runs over the final three frames to sweep the midweek series
