THE SHORT STORY: The Rams opened their final season in their long-time home on Friday at the Diamond. VCU took an early lead and held a 2-2 tie through the eighth inning, but Toledo capitalized on the Rams' lone error and pieced together a late rally to overtake the host, 6-2.

LEADING OFF:
- Spencer Sullivan's first home run of the year scored the Rams' first run at home in the 2025 season
- Seth Werchan extended his reached base streak through game nine, while freshman shortstop Nick April-Gath extended his own to six games
- Werchan, responsible for two RBI in the Rams' midweek at No. 5 North Carolina, drove in a run on a single up the middle
- Cade Dressler went a season-high 5.0 innings, fanning three and allowing a pair of runs
- Zachary Peters was the pitcher of record for the Rams
- Michael Walsh, who struck out the lone batter he faced, has recorded all four of his outs on the season by strikeout
- Toledo third baseman Troy Sudbrooke went 4-5 on the day with a double and a triple
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU came out hot on the mound as Dressler tossed a 1-2-3 first frame to start his four innings of shutout ball
- Ahead 1-0 in the count, Sullivan hammered a solo shot down the right-field line to give the Rams the lead, scoring VCU's last-first run at The Diamond
- April-Gath singled to lead off the third inning, followed by a first-pitch HBP to Nick Flores before Werchan belted a single of his own and extended the Rams' lead to 2-0
- Toledo evened the score with a two-run triple from Sudbrooke
- Taking over for three scoreless frames, Peters took the Rams into the ninth knotted up at 2-2, but Toledo managed four runs aided by a costly VCU error

VCU will continue the Central Virginia Classic as it plays host to Penn State at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Nittany Lions, who are receiving votes in the NCBWA poll, took down Richmond, 17-6, in seven innings. The Rams will close out the weekend with Boston College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
