THE SHORT STORY: Three hits and a hit batter culminated in a ninth-inning rally to double the Rams' run total and lift VCU to victory over North Carolina A&T, 6-3, in the final game of the Clemson Baseball Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

LEADING OFF:
- Spencer Sullivan had a pair of hits and RBI in the game, driving in two of the Rams' three ninth-inning runs
- Miles Garrett tossed a career-best six strikeouts over his 4.1-inning start, giving up just one run
- Earning his second win in as many appearances, Owen Tappy went 2.1 scoreless innings
- Will Henson had his second two-hit game
- Seth Werchan and Jacob Lee each scored two runs
- Werchan extended his on-base streak to a team-high seven games, hit by a pair of pitches and notching a hit of his own
- The pitching staff held NC A&T to a season-low three runs
- Five NC A&T errors aided three of the Rams' early runs
- The Aggies outhit the Rams 11-9

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Garrett opened the game on a hot streak, allowing just a pair of baserunners through the first three frames and posting back-to-back perfect innings in the second and third
- VCU broke open the game in the third inning as Henson drove in the game's first run and Lee managed to take advantage of an Aggies error
- NC A&T managed crooked numbers in back-to-back innings to tie the Rams, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the fifth frame and a double play in the sixth
- The Rams scored on another NC A&T error in the seventh inning to take their lead back, but A&T evened the score once again in the home half
- Owen Tappy held the Aggies scoreless for the final two frames and Sullivan broke the stalemate in the top of the ninth inning with a single up the middle to score a pair
- Trent Adelman dropped a single into right field to bring Sullivan around for an insurance run as the Rams collected their second victory of the year

VCU will play its final road game before a 12-game homestand at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Chapel Hill, N.C., against No. 6 North Carolina. The Rams' home opener is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28, with game one of the Central Virginia Classic against Toledo.
