THE SHORT STORY: Despite some early offensive noise by VCU newcomers, the Rams opened their 2025 season with a loss to College of Charleston in seven innings.

• Freshman catcher Jacob Lee led the Rams with a pair of hits on the day
• Nick Flores led off the season with a single in his first collegiate at-bat
• Transfers Collin Hughes and Seth Werchan each collected their first hits with VCU
• Cade Dressler tallied five strikeouts in his 4.0 innings of work
• The all-time series falls even, with both VCU and Charleston owning four wins
• Jake Brink and Alex Lyon combined for the Cougars' 7.0 innings

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Freshman second baseman opened the 2025 season with a bang, knocking the Rams' first hit of the year on just the second pitch
• In the top of the fourth, Lee and Hughes had back-to-back base knocks, but a pair of strikeouts halted the offensive momentum
• Cade Dressler tossed his second scoreless frame in the fourth, notching his fifth strikeout of the afternoon
• Charleston added eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings for a 10-0 advantage
• James McGrady entered in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded and got a fast pair of outs, but the Cougars' final run crossed the plate on an RBI groundout
