The short story: VCU and JMU were tied 53-53 with 2:53 left in the third quarter before JMU went on an 18-3 run to pull away for the win.

OPENING TIP:

• Cyriah Griffin tied for the VCU lead with 14 pojnts on 6-of-9 shooting
• Patricia Augustin also had 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds
• Katarina Kneževic had 12 points as the third Ram in double figures
• JMU shot 55.54percent from the floor while JMU shot 41.5 percent. The Dukes committed just 11 turnovers while VCU committed 16
• JMU was led by Peyton McDaniel who had 17 points and 10 rebounds as well as Ashanti Barnes who had 18 points and nine rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• VCU trailed early after JMU opened the game on a 12-2 run. The Dukes held a 19-12 lead heading into the second quarter
• The Rams slowly chipped away at the deficit and got within 34-32 with 2:25 left before halftime following a Griffin layup
• VCU trailed JMU 40-32 at halftime after the Dukes ended the half on a 6-0 run
• JMU led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter but a 17-6 run by the Rams tied the game at 51-51 after a Griffin jumper
• The game was again tied at 53-53 just before the end of the third quarter but a 20-3 JMU run gave the Dukes a 73-56 lead as they pulled away for the win
