The short story: VCU trailed American 60-56 but closed the game on a 13-3 scoring run to snap a six-game losing streak.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Lucy Ghaifan led the scoring with a career-high 16 points, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-6 at the foul line
  • Laia Crespin led the Rams with 36 minutes, scoring seven points and adding six rebounds and six assists
  • VCU scored a staggering 41 points off the bench, outscoring American 41-2 in the category
  • The Rams shot 43.3 percent from the floor, going 26-for-60, while the Eagles shot just 32.1 percent

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU took an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter after an 8-0 run that was capped off by a pair of Makennah White free throws
  • The Rams led the Eagles 18-17 until a White 3-pointer capped 12-2 run that gave the Rams its biggest lead of the game at 30-19. American chipped away and VCU led 32-28 at the half
  • Trading leads once again, American went 4-for-4 at the free throw line to take a 48-45 lead with less than a minute remaining on the clock in the third quarter
  • VCU trailed 60-56 with 5:46 remaining in the game but a Knezevic layup started a 13-3 run to end the game and take the lead for good
