RAMS UNRAVEL IN NINTH, FALL TO GEORGE WASHINGTON 11-6

The short story: Senior third baseman Brandon Eike turned in a 2-for-4 day at the plate, but VCU surrendered eight runs in the top of the ninth as George Washington rallied for the win in a Sunday rubber match.
 
LEADING OFF
  • Eike doubled and drove home a run for the Rams
  • Sophomore right fielder Aden Hill reached base three times, drove home a run and scored another for the Black and Gold
  • Six different Rams were credited with an RBI
  • Senior starter Nick Cosentino delivered four innings of two-run ball for VCU. He scattered three hits and walked one, while striking out five
THE STRETCH
  • The Rams took a 6-3 lead into the ninth inning, but the Revolutionaries erupted for eight runs to snatch the victory. McGwire Tuffey and Alexander Wright launched two-run homers to key George Washington in the inning, and Brett Young smacked a single to left to drive in the go-ahead run
  • VCU took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Hill led off with a walk and advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt and a sacrifice bunt. Senior Cooper Benzin scored Hill with a fly ball to deep center. VCU added two more runs on back-to-back RBI doubles by senior William Bean and junior Casey Kleinman to take a 6-3 lead
  • Young led an 11-hit Revolutionary attack with three hits, including a double
  • VCU grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double off the left field wall by senior catcher Nic Ericsson, as well as a Hill sacrifice fly

VCU will wrap up its home schedule with a non-conference contest with Old Dominion on Tuesday, May 7 at The Diamond at 6 p.m.
