The short story: VCU had tied the game 6-6 at halftime but struggled offensively in the second half as the Minutewomen pulled away.

  • UMass took a 3-1 lead with 7:15 left in the first quarter before Koeneke scored with 25 seconds left to cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the second
  • The two teams traded goals in the second period with UMass leading 6-4 before the Rams scored the final two goals of the half to tie the game at 6-6
  • VCU held UMass scoreless for the final 9:21 of the second quarter and McDonnell scored twice, including one goal with 10 seconds left in the half to make it 6-6 at the break
  • The Rams were only able to score two goals in the second half as UMass pulled away for the win
