Brian Curley dazzled in relief, but VCU was unable to rally from an early seven-run deficit Friday at St. Bonaventure.

LEADING OFF
- Curley spun 7.2 innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen for the Rams. He allowed four hits and walked two, while striking out six in the longest outing by a VCU pitcher this season
- Hill ripped his fifth home run of the year, a two-run shot to right, and finished 1-for-5 for the Black and Gold
- Senior centerfielder Cooper Benzin (2-for-4) and senior shortstop William Bean (2-for-5) each collected a pair of hits for VCU. Bean drove in one
- Tristan Ciampa (1-2) tossed tossed 4.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the BonniesÂ
THE STRETCH
- St. Bonaventure got all the runs it would need in the bottom of the first. Bona opened the frame with back-to-back base hits, followed by a sacrifice fly. Later, back-to-back RBI singles by Bona's Antonio Cordeiro and David Marshall Jr. made it 3-0. Later, Adam Rankie sent a two-out, two-run single through the right side to cap a seven-run inning. The Bonnies also capitalized on two VCU errors and a hit batter in the frame
- VCU picked up three runs in the top half of the fourth. Singles by graduate outfielder Ethan Iannuzzi and Benzin put runners on first and second with one out. Bean followed with a base hit to plate Iannuzzi, and he and Benzin came around to score on a St. Bonaventure throwing error
- In the fifth, senior third baseman Brandon Eike singled with one out for VCU. Hill, the Rams' cleanup hitter, followed by pulling a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence to draw VCU within 7-5
- The Rams put a pair of runners on in the sixth, seventh and eighth, but were unable to bring them home, and Bona limited VCU to a Benzin single in the ninth before closing the door
