FOUR RAMS FINISH IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS VCU BEATS SAINT LOUIS

The Short Story: VCU had four players score in double figures, including career-highs from Timaya Lewis-Eutsey and Lucia Sotelo, as the Rams pulled away in the second half for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Lewis-Eutsey had a career-high 24 points along with four rebounds, shooting 9-of-15 from the field
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists while committing just one turnover
  • Mykel Parham recorded her first double-double this season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds
  • Lucia Sotelo had a career-high 13 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field
  • The Rams shot 45.0 percent from the floor and went 19-of-25 from the free throw line. Saint Louis shot 43.6 percent and was 12-of-13 from the charity stripe
  • The Billikens were led by Kyla McMakin who had 15 points and four rebounds
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • VCU opened the game with an 8-5 lead after a Lewis-Eutsey jumper with 6:23 left in the quarter
  • The game was then tied at 10-10 before an 8-2 run by the Billikens gave Saint Louis an 18-12 lead. VCU trailed 18-13 heading into the second quarter
  • VCU trailed by as many as 26-17 with 6:17 left before halftime but a Lewis-Eutsey jumper started a 13-0 run to give the Rams the lead at 30-26 with 2:18 left before halftime
  • The teams traded scores and the Rams ultimately led 35-30 at the half
  • The Rams pushed their lead 51-38 with 3:03 left in the third quarter after a Lewis-Eutsey fastbreak layup
  • The Billikens fought back, going on a 7-0 run to begin the fourth to cut VCU's lead to 57-52 with 7:44 left in the contest
  • VCU countered back with a 17-7 run, capped off by a Sotelo layup, to put the lead back to 74-59 with 37 seconds remaining
  • Saint Louis hit a pair of baskets in the final 20 seconds for the final margin
 
NOTEABLE:
  • This is the fastest VCU team to reach 20 wins in a season and the 20-3 start is its best in school history
  • Mykel Parham's second double-double in her three seasons at VCU
