VCU THROTTLES GEORGE WASHINGTON IN 71-51 WIN

The Short Story: VCU shot a season-high 50.9 percent and led wire-to-wire in its win over George Washington. The win keeps the Rams undefeated at home this season.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • The backcourt trio of Sarah Te-Biasu, Mary-Anna Asare and Timaya Lewis-Eutsey shot combined for 42 points and shot 17-for-32 from the floor while only committing two turnovers
  • Lewis-Eutsey led the charge with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting in just under 22 minutes without committing a turnover
  • It marked Lewis-Eutsey's ninth game of the season shooting 50 percent or higher from the field
  • Te-Biasu contributed 14 points and six assists on 6-of-13 shooting
  • Asare was the third Ram in double figures with 13 points on an efficient 5-of-10 shooting
  • Mykel Parham pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds along with seven points, her sixth game of the season with at least ten boards
  • The Rams limited George Washington to shoot just 32.8 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent. VCU shot 50.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range
  • The Revolutionaries were led by Essence Brown with 13 points
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Rams began the game in similar fashion to their previous contest, hitting their first four field goal attempts during a 9-2 run and forcing an early Revolutionaries timeout
  • VCU shot 66.7% in the opening period and led 24-10 after holding GW to 29.4 percent shooting and 0-for-7 from 3-point range
  • The Rams led 34-12 in the second when GW went on a 7-0 run to get within 34-19. Lewis-Eutsey halted the run with a 3-pointer with 3:41 left before halftime
  • The Rams only outscored GW 18-14 in the second period, but still managed to take a 42-24 lead in the half
  • VCU pushed its lead to 70-41, its largest lead of the game, off a Deniz Torgut layup with 4:52 left in the game
  • The Rams led by at least 20 points the entire second half
 
NOTEABLE:
  • VCU's 19-3 start is its best through 22 games in school history
  • The Rams are 11-0 at home
