VCU DROPS HOME CONTEST TO JMU

The short story: VCU trailed 32-23 at halftime but used a 9-2 run to get back within 34-32 with 6:20 left in the third quarter. The Rams were unable to complete the comeback as JMU answered with a big run and held on for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Mary-Anna Asare led the scoring for the Rams with 13 points, going 5-of-10 from the field including 3-of-7 from 3-point range
  • Timaya Lewis-Eutsey also scored in double figures, scoring 12 points
  • Mykel Parham grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds
  • The Rams shot just 24.6 percent from the floor tonight while James Madison shot 38.9 percent. Both teams shot 20 percent from beyond the arc
  • Ro Scott led the Dukes tonight with 16 points
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • JMU jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead over the first three minutes of the game, but the Rams stormed back and trailed just 16-13 at the end of the first quarter
  • Early in the second half, VCU took their only lead of the night at 19-18 with 8:02 left in the first half on a Jennifer Ezeh layup
  • JMU responded with a 14-2 run over the lead 32-20 before Mary-Anna Asare hit a 3-pointer to make it 32-23 at the half in favor of the Dukes
  • The Rams came out of the half strong with an 8-2 run which was capitalized with a 3-pointer from Izzy Whitelaw to make it 34-32 with 6:20 left in the third
  • VCU got within eighth points at 49-41 with 3:37 left in the game but were unable to get closer

VCU will be back at home for their next game when they take on Delaware State on Monday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the Siegel Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
