RAMS FALL ON THE ROAD AT GEORGE MASON

The Short Story: VCU struggled to find a rhythm offensively, posting their lowest shooting percentage of the season, and George Mason used a 16-2 run in the third quarter to pull away for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Sarah Te-Biasu led VCU with 19 points. She also had five boards and three assists
  • Timaya Lewis-Eutsey had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds
  • The Rams shot a season-low 31.5 percent from the field while the Patriots shot 36.7 percent
  • VCU was outscored in bench points 20-7 by George Mason. The Rams had just one player in double figures
  • Zahirah Walton and Ta'Viyanna Habib led GMU with 13 points each
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • George Mason opened the game on a 10-2 run with 4:16 left in the first quarter powered after hitting a pair of three-pointers
  • VCU answered with 13-2 run spanning the quarter break that would give the Rams a 15-12 lead in the second quarter. The run was capped off by a Lewis-Eutsey layup with 8:28 left before halftime
  • George Mason responded with an 11-4 run to give them back a five-point lead at halftime at 24-19
  • The Rams rebounded well in the first half, recording a 10-2 advantage in 10 second chance points to keep pace
  • VCU trailed just 28-24 with 8:32 left in the third quarter before Mason's 16-2 run gave the Patriots a 44-26 advantage. The Rams trailed 48-31 heading into the fourth
  • The Rams were unable to overcome the deficit in the game's final 10 minutes, getting only as close as a 13-point margin
 
NOTEABLE:
  • The loss snaps VCU's five-game winning streak
  • For just the third time this season, the Rams did not hold an advantage in rebounds with each team grabbing 40 boards
