The Short Story: Sarah Te-Biasu and Timaya Lewis-Eutsey combined for 41 points as VCU held off a Dayton fourth quarter rally to win its fifth straight game.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Sarah Te-Biasu scored a team-high 22 points with two assists and three rebounds
  • Lewis-Eutsey shot 7-of-12 from the field, scoring 19 points and grabbing four rebounds
  • Mary-Anna Asare was the third Ram in double figures with 10 points and four rebounds
  • Mykel Parham had a team-high eight rebounds along with six points
  • Samantha Robinson had six points and five rebounds
  • VCU went 23-of-31 from the free throw line while the Flyers were 7-of-11
  • VCU led 21-15 in points off turnovers and went 6-of-16 from 3-point range while Dayton went 3-of-8  
  • Dayton was led by Ivy Wolf who had 14 points and eight assists
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU began the game on a 10-0 run capped off by a Te-Biasu 3-pointer with 6:15 left in the first quarter
  • Dayton answered with a 10-3 run to get within 13-10 with 2:57 left in the quarter. The teams traded baskets and VCU led 19-13 heading into the second quarter
  • VCU pushed its lead to 24-13 on a Parham layup with 8:35 left in the second quarter but a Dayton went on a 9-0 run to cut VCU's lead to 24-22 with 5:45 left. The Flyers' run came off of back-to-back 3-pointers from Wolfe
  • The Rams then went on a 14-4 run of their own capped off by a Sotelo layup to lead 38-26 at the half
  • VCU pushed its lead to as many as 16 points twice during the third quarter, going up 47-31 on an Asare 3-pointer and again at 49-33 on a Te-Biasu jumper with 6:32 left
  • Dayton cut VCU's lead to as little as five in the fourth quarter at 62-57 with 3:19 left in the game
  • Lewis-Eutsey answered with a personal 8-0 run, including back-to-back 3-pointers, to seal the game and give the Rams a 70-57 lead with 1:49 left
 
NOTEABLE:
  • VCU has won three straight games at UD Arena
