THE SHORT STORY: On a rainy night in Philadelphia, Pa., VCU Women's Soccer saw a second half goal by La Salle find the back of the net in the 70th minute to give the Explorers a 1-0 win in an Atlantic 10 matchup.

PITCH SIDE
  • VCU matched La Salle in shots on goal with three
  • The Rams out shot the Explorers seven to six
  • In the second half the Rams forced a pair of La Salle saves
  • Kanna Matsuhisa and Ella Higgins each had a pair of shots to lead the Rams
  • Higgins, Anna Bagley and Milica Bulatovic each had a shot on goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU goalkeeper Allison Karpovich was tested early, stopping a fifth minute La Salle shot
  • The Rams had an answer, working it down the pitch for a shot on goal in the 16th minute by Bulatovic
  • Near the end of the half, Matsuhisa ripped a shot that went wide right in the 39th minute
  • With the score sitting at 0-0, both sides entered the break
  • During the 67th minute Bagley nearly got the Rams on the board with a shot on goal as the rain began to fall
  • As the rain got heavier, La Salle was able to take advantage of the wet conditions to get a game winning goal in the 70th minute
  • Looking to answer quickly, Higgins smashed a shot that was saved in the 73rd minute
  • The final minutes were hectic, as the Rams kept asking the questions as they looked for a tying goal
  • And on the final kick of the game, Greta Kraszula took a shot that flew just over the top right corner in VCU's last ditch effort to erase the 1-0 deficit
UP NEXT: VCU returns home for a pair of A-10 matches starting with RV Saint Louis on Oct. 1 and Dayton on Oct. 8. The Rams will host senior day against Dayton.
