RAMS DROP CLOSE MATCH TO RV SAINT LOUIS

THE SHORT STORY:  In a game where VCU Women's Soccer posted six shots on goal, RV Saint Louis were able to find the back of the net to pull off a 1-0 win in an Atlantic 10 meeting at Sports Backers Stadium.

PITCH SIDE
  • VCU out shot Saint Louis 18-12
  • The Rams had six shots on goal to SLU's four
  • Jenna Eller led the Rams with three shots on goal
  • Kanna Matsuhisa, Kendyl Sarver and Eller all had three shots
  • VCU forced SLU to make four saves in the second half
  • The Rams out earned SLU in corner, earning five to Saint Louis' one
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SLU opened the game with a goal on a long ball in the ninth minute
  • In the 21st minute VCU got its first shot on goal when Matsuhisa tested Emily Puricelli with a shot in the bottom right corner
  • Carleigh Frilles nearly knotted the game up at one in the 36th when she sent a shot from the right corner of the box that banged off the cross bar and almost tucked in under the bar
  • During the final minutes of the half, Anna Bagley added one more shot on goal when she ripped on that was saved in the 37th minute
  • Allison Karpovich made a save in the 63rd minute to keep VCU in the match
  • Eller took the pitch in the 70th minute and her presence on the pitch gave VCU's offense an injection of energy and production
  • She took shots on goal in the 75th, 79th and 80th minutes to help VCU keep the pressure on
  • As the game drew to a close, Sarver had one last crack at it as a ball fell to her feet on the left side of the box
  • Sarver then took a shot in the 89th minute that went just over the goal and with the final whistle the match came to an end with SLU taking it 1-0

UP NEXT: The Rams remain home for an A-10 matchup on Oct. 8 against Dayton. Sunday will also double as senior day as the Rams honor their nine seniors.
