RAMS PUSH TEMPO IN SCORELESS DRAW AGAINST RHODE ISLAND

THE SHORT STORY: VCU Women's Soccer clashed to a scoreless draw at Sports Backers Stadium, out shooting Rhode Island and pushing the tempo for 90 minutes in Sunday's Atlantic 10 matchup.

THE PITCH SIDE:
  • The Rams racked up 16 shots with four shots on goal
  • VCU held Rhode Island to only two shots on goal
  • Aisha Maughan and Kendyl Sarver led the Rams with three shots each, with Sarver getting one shot on goal
  • Along with Sarver, Stella Castro, Paige Hoeger, and Carleigh Frilles also recorded a shot on goal
  • Allison Karpovich made the start in goal, stopping a pair of Rhode Island shots
  • It was Karpovich's third shutout of the season
  • The Rams also controlled the corners, collecting eleven corners to Rhode Island's three
  • VCU pushed tempo all game, resulting in ten offsides, with some being very close to the line
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Rams got it started early when Greta Kraszula ripped a shot to the left
  • VCU continued to attack early with shots by Maughan, Milica Bulatovic, and Sarver
  • VCU got its first shot on goal in the 32nd minute when Hoeger ripped one right at the Rhode Island keeper
  • As the half dwindled down, the Rams got one more shot on goal by Castro that was again saved
  • VCU opened up the second half just as aggressively, taking six shots in the first fifteen minutes of the period
  • The Rams had a pair of great opportunities in the 74th and 75th minutes as they knocked on the door with shots from Frilles and Sarver
  • When the final whistle blew, VCU and Rhode Island could not find a goal to separate the two as things ended scoreless
