NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Field Hockey graduate student Sheridan Messier was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Messier, who made 13 saves in two games over the weekend, earns the honors for the second consecutive week.
 
Messier made seven shutouts in a shutout win at Columbia on Sept. 17. This came after she made six saves and allowed just two goals over the span of two games, both against No. 13 Saint Joseph's.
 
VCU Field Hockey returns home to host Davidson on Sept. 22 in a 3 p.m. at Cary Street Field.
