NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Field Hockey earned two Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors as
Sheridan Messier was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week and
Mora Marrero was named A-10 Rookie of the Week.

It marks the first A-10 weekly honor for Messier while Marrero earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Messier recorded a shutout in VCU's 1-0 win at Bellarmine on Friday, making five saves to preserve the win. She followed that up with four saves in a close 2-1 overtime loss at ACC foe No. 5 Louisville. For the weekend, she saved nine of the 12 shots she faced.

Marrero scored both of VCU's goals over the weekend, the game-winner against Bellarmine. She has scored five goals through VCU's first five games of the season and leads the team in goals. She ranks second in the A-10 in goals this season and 14
th nationally in goals per game.

VCU opens Atlantic 10 play on Friday, Sept. 15 at No. 10 Saint Joseph's.
