HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The two teams were deadlocked in the first half, splitting possession but the Rams recorded the only shot attempt of the first quarter as Maggie Goodwin's effort was saved in the 11^th minute
• Kent State had back-to-back-to-back chances off penalty corners in the 21^st minute but Messier saved all three efforts to keep the game 0-0
• VCU broke the deadlock midway through the third quarter as Macera took a short corner from Marrero and fired her shot past the keeper
• Messier made just one save in the fourth quarter as VCU's defense held off Kent State
