GUDRUN HALLGRIMSDOTTIR EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN HONORS AT NCAA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gudrun Hallgrímsdóttir finished 15th overall in the women's hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, on Thursday. Hallgrímsdóttir's best mark of the day came on her third and final attempt with a throw of 63.62m (208'-9").
 
By virtue of her finishing place, Hallgrímsdóttir earned second team All-American honors. Hallgrímsdóttir became VCU's third All-American athlete in track & field since 2010. Kiara Porter, the team's current Director of Operations, was a two-time first team All-American in the 400-meter dash in 2014 and 2015. Jalessa Williams collected two second team All-American awards for the discus in 2013 and 2014.
 
This performance concludes a stellar sophomore season for Hallgrímsdóttir, setting VCU records in the weight throw and hammer throw, an Icelandic national record in the weight throw, two Atlantic 10 Championships, and a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA East First Round meet.
