Sophomore thrower Gudrun Hallgrímsdóttir has qualified for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA East First Round meet in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday. Hallgrímsdóttir punched her ticket with an impressive mark of 65.42m, comfortably breaking her own VCU school record in the event.

Hallgrímsdóttir is the first Ram to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2015 when Kiara Porter placed eighth and earned All-American honors in the 400-meter dash. The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
