The Short Story: VCU went toe-to-toe with nationally-ranked Virginia early on, but the visiting Cavaliers pulled away from the Rams midway through the second period and held off VCU's late rally.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Juliana George and Kelsey McDonnell led the Rams in scoring with three goals each
  • Mia George added two goals and two assists, while Kiley Kozak also found the back of the net twice
  • Savannah Slack and Meghan McLaughlin contributed a goal each to the VCU effort

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU started off strong when McLaughlin scored the game's first goal just 46 seconds into the contest
  • After Virginia went up 3-2 on Clark's first goal of the game with 7:08 left in the first, the Rams responded with three consecutive goals over the next 6:08 of game action, two of which were scored by Juliana George. VCU took a 5-3 lead after the first
  • Virginia responded with seven unanswered goals, capped by a man-up goal by McGovern off of a free position. VCU fought back, tacking on two late second period goals from Juliana George and McDonnell to make the halftime score 11-7 in favor of Virginia
  • The Cavaliers started the second half with three unanswered goals in a row over the first nine minutes of the third period to open up a 14-7 lead
  • VCU continued to play hard late, outscoring Virginia 4-3 in the fourth period, including two goals in the final 1:41, one from Slack and another from McDonnell

VCU resumes Atlantic 10 Conference play this Saturday, April 8, when the George Washington visit Cary Street Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
