RAM WOMEN SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT VERTKLASSE AND COLONIAL RELAYS

The Short Story:  Several Rams posted standout performances at High Point, led by sophomore Gudrun Hallgrímsdóttir finishing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.74 meters (197'-4"), resetting her own school record in the event.

SPRINTS
  • Freshman Kayelyn Tate took home the win in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.40 seconds for the second-best time in VCU history. Junior Lauryn Taylor finished second overall for the Black And Gold, and her time of 11.45 is the third-fastest 100m in VCU history
  • Freshman Jaylin Pate placed sixth overall in the 400m, completing the lap in 55.81
     
HURDLES
  • Freshman Madison Parham set a new personal record time of 1:02.81 in the 400-meter hurdles on her way to a sixth-place finish. Parham is currently fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the 400mh
 
JUMPS
  • Freshman Chelsea Davis led the Rams in both the long jump and the triple jump, posting marks of 5.52m (18'-1.5") and 12.15m (39'-10.5")
THROWS
  • Hallgrímsdóttir beat her previous school record in the hammer throw on three separate attempts. Her new record of 61.74m puts her ninth in the NCAA East, and she is currently ranked 15th nationally in the event
  • Senior Jocelyn Midkiff threw a personal-best of 49.10m (161'-1") in the discus, which is currently the best in the Atlantic 10 this season
  • Senior Kayla Markel came in second in the javelin throw, and her best throw of 43.22 ranks her second in the Atlantic 10 so far this season

DISTANCE
  • The women's distance medley relay team of sophomore Lauren Tunnell, freshman Naomi Clarke, freshman Jayanna Carroll, and freshman combined for a new school record of 12:09.44, 13 seconds faster than the previous best of 12:22.86 set all the way back in 2010
  • Tunnell also finished sixth in the invitational section of the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in 4:36.07
  • Miller made her debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase, traversing the seven and a half laps in 11:43.29. That is the eighth-best time in VCU history in that event
 

UP NEXT
 
VCU Track & Field will toe the line in two states again next weekend, with some athletes going to the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., on April 6-8. Another group of Rams will stay in Virginia for the Dalton E. Bank Invitational in Fairfax, Va., taking place on Saturday, April 8.
