Kelsey McDonnell combined for nine goals as VCU took control of the game early in the second quarter and cruised to the win over La Salle.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle took a 2-1 lead with 2:57 left in the first quarter before VCU took control of the game scoring seven unanswered goals over the next eight minutes of game play. Juliana George's free position goal with 9:16 left in the second quarter gave VCU an 8-2 lead
- The Rams allowed the Explorers to score twice to cut their lead to 8-4 but responded with four more goals before halftime, taking a 12-4 lead into the break after McDonnell scored with seven seconds left
- VCU's defense held the Explorers to just one goal in the second half, coming with 1:02 left in the third quarter
- The Rams controlled the pace of the game during the third and fourth quarters, outscoring La Salle 4-1 in the second half to put the game away
