HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Davidson got out to an early lead with two goals from Erin Cooke in the first 4:08 of play
  • VCU responded with two goals of its own as Reed scored her fifth goal of the season before, with 2:34 left in the opening period, Kash found the back of the net to make it 2-2
  • The visiting Wildcats went on a run in the second frame, scoring three goals over the course of five and a half minutes of play to take a 5-2 advantage with 6:37 left before half
  • A goal from McDonnell with 1:24 left in the second period cut VCU's deficit to just 5-3
  • Fahey scored for Davidson to push its lead to 6-3 but VCU scored the next two goals to draw 6-5 after the second McDonnell goal
  • The two teams then traded goals within ten seconds of each other late in the period, as Kozak's first career goal made the score 7-6 heading into the fourth period
  • The fourth quarter was a defensive battle with neither team finding the net until George beat her defender on the wing and drove to the net, shooting a backhand shot to tie the game at 7-7 with 21 seconds remaining
  • In the overtime period, Davidson capitalized off of a VCU turnover to get the ball to Fahey who scored the game-winner
